But to that end, Hutchins is a great professor, especially because he always wears suspenders. ;) You actually learn in this class and if you find that you're having trouble he's more than willing to help you out.
There's only 1 midterm and 1 final, both of which he held review sessions for. Memorize his review questions, as you're likely to see several of them on his tests. There are three parts to his exams: Mechanisms, Synthesis, and Definitions. The good part is that he gives a bunch of examples for each part and you can choose which ones you want/know how to do.
Even if you bomb the midterm (like I did) you can still get a decent grade in the class. Homework is optional but it will bring up your grade so DO IT. He gives four pop quizzes and averages the 3 highest scores into your grade. Quizzes usually consist of 3-4 questions, 1 of which is usually a freebie like "sign your name" or "how does Organic Chemistry relate to your future career plans?"
So there's plenty of leeway. Just study, pay attention, and memorize.
And a word of warning: cramming the entire night before his midterm will do nothing for you unless you have a great memory.
